About

As one of the world’s most collected, significant pop artists today, Nelson De La Nuez is a born iconoclast. Using his unique juxtaposition of pop culture and surrealism, blended with America’s rich culture and history, De La Nuez has created works of art that are considered timeless. Listed on the “Who’s Who List of the Most Collected Artists of Our Time,” his works are original, bold, and outspoken. The artist is known for his distinctive, trademarked style called “Art on the Edge,” which is creating art on all sides of the canvas.

Nelson De La Nuez’s spray can sculpture, "Bad Kitty," is a vibrant and whimsical mixed-media artwork that combines pop art and street art influences. The piece reimagines an ordinary spray paint can as a bold, three-dimensional canvas, featuring a layered explosion of iconic imagery and vivid colors.

On the can, Hello Kitty takes center stage, depicted in a playful and edgy way that challenges her traditional innocence. Surrounding her are bright graffiti-style text, cartoonish elements, and layered splashes of color. Phrases like "Famous" and Japanese characters add to the urban, cultural, and pop-centric narrative. The work is covered in an all-around finish, accentuating its sculptural texture and dynamic composition.

The back of the can includes humorous mock warning labels, making the piece both a visual and conceptual commentary on art and consumer culture. De La Nuez’s signature and crown emblem reinforce his recognizable style as "The King of Pop Art," while the piece’s limited-edition status adds collectibility and value.

This imaginative sculpture bridges the gap between fine art and playful design, offering collectors a unique, eye-catching piece that celebrates creativity, individuality, and the bold energy of street art.

This one-of-a-kind collectible spray can is displayed on a 6-inch square black plexi base and encased in a 9 inch tall, 6 inch wide, and 6 inch deep clear acrylic plexi holder, making it easy to place and showcase in any space. The spray can is 7.5-inches tall and 2.5-inches wide. Size and price include the base and display unit. The artwork is signed on the bottom of the base and on the side of the spray can. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental US and worldwide shipping.

Nelson De La Nuez was born in 1959 in Havana, Cuba, and came to the United States at age seven. He was raised in California. De La Nuez studied Art History at Boston University where he was inspired by the French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist periods. Though his paintings are clearly Pop Art, the subtle humor of artists like Edouard Manet and Pablo Picasso echo throughout his playful work.

De La Nuez’s work hangs in some of the most prominent private collections of movie stars, directors, producers, comedians, and corporations. His work has been purchased by Sotheby’s for future auctions and his works sell out consistently at major international shows and fairs. Nelson De La Nuez tries to create a new generation of art lovers, drawing upon icons and art history to entice younger minds, in turn provoking the interest of the generation above them.

The L.A. Times called De La Nuez “the comedic da Vinci of our times.” His ability to use non-related images to achieve a whole new and stimulating outlook on life has brought him many awards and published features. The artist continues to challenge himself to incorporate new and exciting ideas into his art and his style. He believes he is a success if his art inspires people to think beyond the norm.
