Carlos Gamez de Francisco at Bradbury Art Museum
Artplex Gallery is excited to announce that our represented artist, Carlos Gamez de Francisco, will be showcasing his latest works in the upcoming exhibition, Contemporary Classic, at the Bradbury Art Museum. This curated group exhibition will run from September 12 to November 20, 2024, offering an innovative exploration of historical art themes through modern perspectives.
As a post-revolutionary Cuban-born artist, Carlos Gamez de Francisco paints bright, distorted realities, demystifying classical beauty and presenting it as a natural process. His portraiture-style artworks feature figures that are superimposed and manipulated through his personal experiences with historical figures and events. Gamez de Francisco’s upbringing in a Russian-governed academic environment in Cuba, where figurative art was emphasized while contemporary art was censored, deeply influenced his work. His near-obsession with the past and storytelling translate into a body of work that offers an escape from reality while creating an illusory world.
Gamez de Francisco earned his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016, and his work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. His pieces are included in numerous private and public collections, including the 21c Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Cubaocho Museum in Miami, Florida. He has received several awards and commissions, notably a mural for Google.
The Bradbury Art Museum is located at 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72401. For more information about Contemporary Classic, please visit the museum’s official website.
